In 2012, Seiko took watchmaking to a new level with the Astron GPS Solar, which connects to the Global Positioning System (GPS) and adjusts to each time zone* with the push of a button (*If there are changes in the region / time zone/DST, manual selection may be necessary), while generating all the power it needs from light alone.

Seiko Astron launches the new movement, the caliber 5x83, which combines Dual-Time technology with a chronograph function.

The SSH156J1 is a limited edition with gold details that commemorates the centenary of the Seiko brand and the legacy of the company's founder, Kintaro Hattori

Since Seiko's inception in 1881, the company has continued to innovate in line with founder Kintaro Hattori's philosophy of being "Always one step ahead of others." In 1924, the company introduced the first wristwatch with "Seiko" on the dial, marking the beginning of the Seiko brand. The year 2024 marks the centenary of this historic event.

Three key improvements to the 5x83 caliber:

1/20 second chronograph function: The subdial at 12 o'clock measures elapsed time in 1/20 second increments.
Faster time transfer function
The time of day displayed on the main dial can be changed with that on the 6 o'clock subdial by holding two buttons for three seconds.

The hands on the main dial and subdial move simultaneously, making the time required for transfer significantly shorter with the new Caliber 5X83 than with the Caliber 5X53.

Improvement of the texture and colors of the dial, now contrasting, creating a more dynamic and sporty presence.
The hour, minute and second hands, as well as the three-dimensional indices, are filled with Lumibrite, improving legibility in low light conditions.

Thanks to the low center of gravity of the titanium case and the double-curved sapphire crystal with super transparent coating, the watches guarantee high levels of comfort and readability.

A new buckle adjustment system allows you to make, with the touch of a button, small adjustments to the bracelet length that are so important when temperature or other changes cause the wrist to expand or contract.

The SSH156J1's all-black limited edition case and bracelet, the sunburst dial and golden-yellow accents evoke a nighttime view of the Earth from an orbiting satellite, an image that perfectly reflects the innovative technology behind the Astron GPS Solar.

The two-part bezel consists of a multi-faceted ceramic top and a golden-yellow titanium frame to create a glow that further evokes this resplendent nighttime view. Ceramic is also used for the center links of the bracelet and the tip of the crown.

The golden yellow caseback bears the name of the company's founder, Kintaro Hattori, and the "S" mark that he registered in 1900 as a symbol of the Seikosha factory. Just above the brand appears the phrase that so accurately expressed his philosophy for the company.

The watch is offered in a special case with an additional extra-strong silicone strap and a commemorative metal pin with the "S" mark.
