Since the 1960s, Seiko has presented itself as an international sports timekeeper. In 1969, Seiko introduced the Seiko Speedtimer, the world's first automatic chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch that improved measurement in a wristwatch and with the function of a high-quality chronograph.
The SSC937 is a solar chronograph and inherits the iconic designs and styles of the Speedtimer series of the 1960s-70s.
The dial on the SSC937 is highly legible and clear, a crucial aspect in a Prospex sports watch.
The shape of the case is faithful to the original, but in 39 mm and like other innovations the combination of satin and smooth polishing on the bracelet, and the curved sapphire crystal.

Available exclusively in Europe, including the UK, the SSC937 Speedtimer “Speedometer” from Prospex is inspired by classic Mediterranean blue cars from the 1960s. It arrives with an extra brown perforated leather strap, designed to fit the aesthetics of the classic car.

About Seiko:

Fascinated with Swiss watchmaking, he dreams of being a high-end watchmaker and at just 18 years old creates a watch repair shop in his own home in Kyobashi (Ginza district). Four years later he founded the company K Hattori for repairs and sale of second-hand watches. In 1892, he created the firm Seikosha ("house of precision") manufacturing his own wall clocks and created the first pocket watch, called "Time Keeper" in 1895 or the first Japanese-made alarm clock. In 1913 he created the first wristwatch called "Laurel". His dream of being a true watchmaker is a reality. But the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 destroyed everything. Time doesn't stop, it advances. Hattori started all over again, a year later he was remaking his wristwatch this time under the Seiko brand. He rebuilt the tower clock in Ginza, in 1932 symbolizing the rebirth of Seiko and Tokyo's own city.

In the 1970s, Seiko is looking for alternatives to quartz with solar technology and later will be the kinetic watch, direct drive movement, chronograph, perpetual calendar, GMT, Astron GPS Solar (2012), Diver's watches and their diving watches. In the late 1990s, they created the Grand Seiko collection with large mechanical calibers such as the 9S and soon after perfection with the Spring Drive system coupled with all these advances and more.
