About the SSC955P1 Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph:

Since 1987, Seiko has been the Official Timekeeper of World Athletics, the world athletics championship. In 2025, the World Athletics Championships return to Tokyo for the first time in 34 years, and Seiko will once again deploy its state-of-the-art timing equipment in the city of its founding, marking a momentous event in its history as a benchmark in sports timekeeping.

To mark World Athletics 2025, Seiko is launching a limited edition of the Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph, the SSC955.

The dial is presented in a beautiful hue inspired by "Edo purple," a color highly valued in the ancient city that would eventually become modern-day Tokyo. As a nod to the city's historic name, Edo, this shade was chosen as the official color of the 25th World Athletics Championships Tokyo.

The back of the watch features the event's emblem, along with the limited edition number of 6,000 pieces.

About Seiko:

Follow your dreams and keep moving aheadis the philosophy of Seiko's founder: Kintaro Hattori.

Fascinated with Swiss watchmaking, he dreams of being a high-end watchmaker and at just 18 years old creates a watch repair shop in his own home in Kyobashi (Ginza district). Four years later he founded the company K Hattori for repairs and sale of second-hand watches. In 1892, he created the firm Seikosha ("house of precision") manufacturing his own wall clocks and created the first pocket watch, called "Time Keeper" in 1895 or the first Japanese-made alarm clock. In 1913 he created the first wristwatch called "Laurel". His dream of being a true watchmaker is a reality. But the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 destroyed everything. Time doesn't stop, it advances. Hattori started all over again, a year later he was remaking his wristwatch this time under the Seiko brand. He rebuilt the tower clock in Ginza, in 1932 symbolizing the rebirth of Seiko and Tokyo's own city.

Keep moving forward, step by step. Seiko has evolved into technology and the science applied to watchmaking. In 1969, Astron was the first quartz watch. In the 1970s, Seiko is looking for alternatives to quartz with solar technology and later will be the kinetic watch, direct drive movement, chronograph, perpetual calendar, GMT, Astron GPS Solar (2012), Diver's watches and their diving watches. In the late 1990s, they created the Grand Seiko collection with large mechanical calibers such as the 9S and soon after perfection with the Spring Drive system coupled with all these advances and more.

"Be always one step ahead of others" Kintaro Hattori, founder of Seiko
