The Seiko Presage SPB497 showcases the beauty of unglazed Arita porcelain. The fusion of Seiko's watchmaking expertise and the artistry of Arita porcelain.
From the Presage collection, we've seen dials crafted with enamel, urushi lacquer, Shippo enamel, and Arita porcelain in the Classic Presage Series.
Typically, Arita porcelain is glazed, giving it a smooth, glossy finish. However, unglazed, it features a matte texture that gives it a warm white hue and a distinctive, soft impression. This technique enhances the delicate ridges characteristic of Arita porcelain.
In this new creation, a textured diamond pattern adorns the area around the indexes. This pattern symbolizes the prosperity of descendants and good health.
The gold-plated indexes and hands stand out beautifully against the matte white dial, creating a striking contrast.
The production of each watch dial involves a multi-stage process. Under the supervision of Arita porcelain master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi, the dials are created by Toshiaki Kawaguchi and his colleagues at an Arita manufacturing company that has been producing porcelain since 1830.
This limited-edition watch, limited to 1,200 pieces, is powered by the Caliber 6R51. The wearer can see the movement's golden oscillating weight through the sapphire crystal caseback.
